Accessibility Legislation

The Government of Ontario passed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) to develop, implement and enforce accessibility standards created to achieve accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities with respect to goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises on or before January 1st, 2025.

Standards have been developed in five areas: Customer Service, Transportation, Information and Communication, Employment and Public Spaces (Built Environment). These standards have been made into laws called regulations and they provide the details to help meet the goals of the AODA.

Accessibility Standards for Customer Service which came into effect on January 1st, 2008 and,
Integrated Accessibility Standards which came into effect on January 1st, 2011.

Communication Supports and Alternate Formats

The Township of Huron-Kinloss is committed to providing information in the format that meets your needs. Upon request the Township will provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats or communication supports for persons with disabilities.  The cost of these goods and services will be no greater than the regular cost charged to others.

Website Accessibility

The Township of Huron-Kinloss website has been designed using the W3C technologies and guidelines and adhering to the following checkpoints:

  • equivalent alternatives to auditory and visual content has been provided
  • no information has been conveyed using color alone
  • markup and style sheets have been used appropriately
  • use of tables has been restricted to use for conveying tabular data only and transform gracefully to text
  • pages featuring new technologies transform gracefully (i.e. all pages are legible when style sheets, JavaScript etc are turned off)
  • context and orientation information has been provided where appropriate
  • clear navigation mechanisms have been put in place
