Delegation to Council
Members of the public who wish to make presentations to Council on their own behalf or on behalf of an organization, are called delegations to Council. Before even making a presentation to Council we suggest that you discuss your concerns with a member of township staff. If your concerns cannot be addressed in this manner, township staff can advise you of the next step to resolving the issue.
If you wish to present information or make a request of Council, please notify the Clerk no later than 1:00 pm in the afternoon on the Thursday of the week preceding the day of the meeting in order that your delegation may be placed on the agenda. A written submission is required by that time clearly stating the material the delegation will be presenting to Council. Please note that the purpose of a delegation is to provide information to Council. They will provide you with a response at a later date. Each delegation is allotted 10 minutes to speak with Council. Once heard, a delegation will not be heard again on substantially the same material for three months. If your material is urgent in manner, Council may allow the delegation to proceed even if the proper notification process is not carried out.
Closed Sessions
Local Government in Ontario must be transparent and accountable. To this end the Province has set rules for a Council, local board or a committee to go into a closed meeting. These rules are found in section 239 of the Municipal Act, 2001 as amended and must be strictly adhered to. Council will pass a resolution prior to entering closed session that will state the general nature for the closed session. The purpose of the closed session is for council to receive information or give direction on certain issues. For further information on closed session please see the attached information sheet “Why do Municipal Council and local boards have meetings or portions of meetings that are closed to the public". If you have concerns regarding a closed session please contact the Clerk at 519-395-3358 or see the attached Request for Investigation Form.
Please visit the Municipal Calendar for specific meeting information.
