Election 2018

The next election for the Township of Huron-Kinloss will be held Monday, October 22, 2018.


For the 2018 municipal election, voters in the Township will elect a Mayor (1), Deputy Mayor (1), Councillors (5), and School Board Trustees to represent them for the term of office beginning December 1, 2018 and ending November 14, 2022.  Under the Municipal Elections Act, the term of office is 4 years for all offices.  You must be an eligible elector in order to vote in the municipality on Voting Day.

A person is entitled to be an if on Voting Day he/she:
•is a Canadian Citizen;
•is at least 18 years old; and
•resides in the local municipality, or is the owner or tenant of land there, or is the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
•is not prohibited from voting under Section 17 Subsection 3 or otherwise by law.

The Township will be using a telephone and internet method of voting.  PIN numbers will be mailed out to all persons on the Voter’s List in October, 2018.

Each eligible voter may use their PIN and cast one vote, either via internet or telephone during the VOTING PERIOD from: 
Monday October 15, 2018 to Monday October 22, 2018, 8:00 p.m.


In order to run for public office for the 2018 municipal election, a candidate must file the prescribe Form 1, Nomination Paper with the Clerk, 21 Queen Street, Ripley during normal office hours of 8:30 am. to 4:30 pm. beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2018 to Thursday, July 26, 2018 and on Nomination Day, Friday, July 27, 2018 from 9:00 am. - 2:00 pm.

A candidate must file the Nomination paper in person as an original signature is required. The candidate will be required to show suitable identification, and pay a filing fee. 

Effective April 1, 2018, the nomination of a person for an office within the municipality must be endorsed by at least 25 persons. The person endorsing the nomination must be eligible to vote in an election for an office within the municipality, if a regular election was held on the day that the person endorses the nomination. Please Note: Nominations filed for School Board Trustee do not require the endorsement of 25 persons.

Withdrawing a Nomination

A candidate who wishes to withdraw his/her nomination paper must file, with the Clerk, a written withdrawal by no later than 2:00 pm on Friday, July 27, 2018 (Nomination Day).

Filing Registration as a Third Party
