Huron-Kinloss Receives Green Ribbon Award
On May 18th, 2012 Deputy Mayor Wilf Gamble accepted the Green Ribbon Award for Huron-Kinloss and the Lurgan Beach Association from the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation.
A Green Ribbon Beach is a symbol of environmental excellence, intended to acknowledge, promote and protect the environment along Lake Huron. Green Ribbon recognizes those communities who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to care for and preserve the natural shoreline enviornment
The Green Ribbon Award acknowledges those beaches which are prized for their high quality and where care is taken to preserve their natural, unspoiled environment, or where their natural values have been restored.

The Lurgan Beach Association has worked for a number of years to enhance their coastal environment, preserving their waterfront dunes and transforming their beach right-of-ways into green user friendly beach walkways.
The Township of Huron-Kinloss was recognized a municipal leader by following the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation's 'Stewardship Guide' (available on this website), implementing measures and developing policies and by-laws designed to help protect our beaches.
