2014 Holiday Shopping Pass

The Holiday Shopping Pass is coming back to Huron-Kinloss November 1st!

We received a total of 1472 completed Holiday Shopping Passes in 2013, which represents a total of $220,800 that was spent between November 1st and December 24th in our community.

The Ripley and Lucknow Holiday Shopping Pass is back this year and will run the same as previous years. Taralyn has been contacting businesses that participated last year to see if they would like to participate again and extending the invitation to a few new downtown businesses.

The promotion will start on November 1st and run until December 25th. Consumers will have a chance to win one of  THREE $150 Huron-Kinloss Shopping Sprees!  


November Marketing Workshop

The Saugeen Shores Business Enterprise Centre is looking at offering a Marketing Workshop in Huron-Kinloss

Last year, the Saugeen Shores Business Enterprise Centre hosted a Social Media Workshop at the Fire Hall 

in Lucknow. 

Following the success of that event, the Enterprise Centre would like to partner with the Township of Huron-Kinloss to offer another workshop. Below is an outline of the proposed Marketing Workshop:

  1. Knowing your brand (how to determine your current branding, creating a new brand, etc.)
  2. Getting to know your customers (how to do market research, etc.) 
  3. Delivering on customers’ needs (increasing your customer base, attracting your ideal customer base, etc.)
  4. Creating lasting impressions (setting yourself apart from your competitors, best practices, etc.)
  5. Effectively use merchandising to increase your bottom line (merchandising to match your brand, how merchandising influences sales, etc.)
  6. Targeting your advertising/the role of public relations (how to put together a marketing plan and budget, how to measure the success of your advertising campaigns, etc.)

Become involved with the Lucknow Chamber or Ripley Business Community

Lucknow Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber currently has over 60 members and if you operate a business in the Lucknow area and are not currently a member, the Chamber welcomes you to join. The annual fee is $80 and this goes towards downtown beautification projects, promotions, events and more.

For current and potential members, please consider attending the Chamber's next meeting, which is on December 9th at 6:30pm at Village Pizzeria in Lucknow. Ideas and input are welcomed. For more information visit the Chamber's website:     

Ripley Business Community

A new Ripley Business Community (RBC) Executive was recently appointed and they are looking for YOUR ideas for community projects. The RBC currently has over 20 members and welcome non-members in the Ripley area to join the group. The annual fee is  $200 and goes towards planters and flowers in the downtown, sponsorship of Christmas in the Park, an annual social, promotions and beautification projects.  

For current and potential members, please consider attending the RBC's next meeting, which is on October 22 at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers (Ripley). Ideas and input are welcomed!

Facebook Tips

Bernia Wheaton shared some great tips at the July Huron-Kinloss Facebook Workshop!

The Township of Huron-Kinloss hosted an informative social media workshop for business owners on July 23rd in Lucknow. Bernia Wheaton of Acheive Consulting Group showed attendees how to set up a Facebook2014 Business Dinner account and Page and shared tips on using various Facebook applications. 

A tutorial for setting up a Facebook Page based on the information Bernia shared in this workshop has been developed. If you would like a refresher, please contact Taralyn. Please also let her know if you have any ideas for future workshops.

If you own a restaurant, farm gate or process or distribute food, you'll definitely want to consider joining the Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association!

The Grey Bruce Agriculture & Culinary Association (Grey Bruce ACA) is a non-profit association dedicated to the promotion and increased public awareness of fresh, local food in the community.

  • Grey Bruce ACA promotes local regional foods through networking, marketing, and education.
  • Our members include farmers, restaurateurs, food processors, food distributors, farmers' markets, tourist operators and cooking schools.
  • Grey Bruce ACA is a member based volunteer organization; run by volunteers and depending on volunteers to obtain its goals and objectives.
  • Grey Bruce ACA works collaboratively with Grey and Bruce Counties through their tourism departments and with other organizations to develop the two Counties as a culinary tourist destination.
  • Grey Bruce ACA is not a political organization.
  • Membership is only $50/year

Many of you have likely seen the map that the Association prints every year featuring its' members, but that's not all they do! Being a member has several more perks, such as incusion in the annual Field to Fork event, and access to experts in the field (no pun intended). Grey and Bruce Counties are currently working with a few restaurants to introduce local food to their menus and tap into the large market of people looking for fresh, local meals.

Grey Bruce Tourism Conference

The 2014 Grey Bruce Tourism Conference is being held on October 16th at the UNIFOR Family Education Centre in Port Elgin from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Keynote speakers include Pete Luckett (founder of a multi-million dollar retail store, Pete's Frootique) and Donald Cooper (former owner of Cooper Canada).
