An Important Safety Update from our Fire Chief

Did you know smoking is the #1 cause of fatal home fires?

How can you prevent a smoking fire?

  • Encourage smokers to smoke outside
  • Do not extinguish cigarettes in plant pots, which may contain a mixture of peat moss, shredded wood and bark that can easily ignite
  • Never smoke in bed
  • Use large, deep ashtrays that cannot be knocked over
  • Empty ashes into metal containers, not the garbage, and take outside
  • If people have been smoking in your home, check behind chair and sofa cushions for cigarette butts before going to bed

Keep your home safe! Install smoke alarms on every floor of your home and outside all sleeping areas.

Tax Arrears

Collection of property taxes is necessary to fund the services and programs that are provided by the municipality, County of Bruce and local School Boards.

A change in legislation in 2017 to the Municipal Act, reduced the time that a municipality must wait before they can start the Tax Sale registration process from 3 years to 2 years. At this point, the municipality can start the tax sale registration process which will eventually result in the property being sold.

We offer numerous methods of payment; cash, cheque, debit, pre authorized payment, postdated cheques and on line payments. Your payments can also be made directly by your mortgage company, where available.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding fees or property taxes, please contact the municipal office at 519-395-3735 or visit our website at
