Update from NWMO on the Adaptive Phased Management Project

Conclusion of Phase 1 Studies

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization will publish Preliminary Assessment Reports and a series of supporting reports for 9 communities completing Phase 1. NWMO will identify a small number of communities invited to advance to Phase 2.This information will be communicated in an organized way in each of the communities. 

Phase 1 activities
Agreement to proceed - NWMO and accountable authorities
Safety - Scientific and technical studies of geology
Community well-being - Desktop studies and engagement
Regional picture - Engage leaders in First Nations, Métis and other surrounding communities
Stock-taking - Review findings about potential suitability, identify areas for Phase 2 study

International Co-operation and Experience Presentation by the NWMO

NWCAC Seeking Committee Member

As per the “Nuclear Waste Community Advisory Committee By-Law” By-Law Number 2013-43, the term of office of the Members shall expire at the completion of the term of Council in an election year.

Four of the five current members of the committee will be re-appointed in December for a four year term to the Nuclear Waste Community Advisory Committee. Mayor Mitch Twolan and Deputy Mayor Wilf Gamble will continue to sit on the committee.

With one vacancy, Township Council is seeking one interested and open-minded resident to voluntarily participate on a Community Advisory Committee to facilitate community engagement and assist with activities and events related to the Site Selection process.

Interested individuals should send a resume and detailed letter of interest outlining reasons why they would be a suitable candidate for the committee to the Administrator by November 27th, 2014. Only those parties selected for an interview will be contacted.
