Funding Programs
Early Investment in Education and Skills Program
The Huron-Kinloss Nuclear Waste Community Advisory Committee partnered with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) to provide the Early Investment in Education and Skills (EIES) Program. This program was designed to support education and skills training for residents of areas actively participating in Canada’s plan as a way to contribute to community well-being and capacity. The EIES program supported education and skills training for Huron-Kinloss residents, in addition to funding for youth learning initiatives focusing on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
In light of the November 2024 announcement that South Bruce will no longer be considered as a potential DGR site, funding for the EIES Program has concluded. This marks the end of a significant era of community investment, and we extend our deepest gratitude to the NWMO for their support, which has left a lasting legacy in our community.
Sponsorship and Donation Program
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) Sponsorship and Donations program was created to help small, local initiatives that support the well-being of communities and support for local municipal, First Nation or Métis initiatives up to $5,000. The NWMO has a strong focus on collaboration in their work and they want to ensure that they are supporting events, activities and causes that have strong interest and support from others in their community. To make sure there is lots of opportunity for others to contribute, the NWMO will only fund up to 30 per cent of an ongoing (e.g., annual) program or event
This program is meant to help small, local initiatives that support the well-being of communities. It is not meant to fund local businesses, individuals or typical operations of municipalities, bands or other levels of government (e.g. town infrastructure, maintenance services, etc.). It is also not intended to support staff social events. Initiatives involving political, religious or controversial causes are also ineligible. Additionally, we cannot consider requests for retroactive funding, multi-year agreements or scholarships through this program. For further information contact Vanessa Liu .
