Wastewater

Municipal Wastewater Systems

The Township of Huron-Kinloss has two sanitary sewer systems servicing the communities of Lucknow and Ripley. Both systems treat waste with stabilization ponds, aerated lagoons and rapid infiltration basins.

The municipality is responsible for the treatment, pipes, and assets in these areas. Homeowners and property owners are responsible for the pipes and assets on their private property.

Rural and Lakeshore Septic Systems

Rural and Lakeshore properties must each have their own septic system to manage wastewater. See below for information on installation and maintenance.

All sewage systems with the exception of portable toilets (Class One Pit Privies) require building permits for both new installations and repairs or replacement of existing systems. Please see the Sewage System section of our Permits, Inspections, and Fees page.

We care about the environment and know you do as well. The Huron-Kinloss Community Septic Inspection Program is one way we are protecting our surface and groundwater quality.

Every property with a septic system in the Township is required to have their system inspected once in an eight-year cycle or every five years if you're within a Wellhead Protection Area. Learn more on our Septic Inspection Program page.

The cost of this program is included in your property tax bill. There is no additional cost at the time of inspection.
