Council Highlights August 12th, 2024
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council and Committee of Adjustment meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m. Highlights from the meeting include:
Proposed Telecommunication Tower by Shared Tower Inc.
Shared Tower Inc. has proposed the construction of a 45-metre tripole tower in Huron-Kinloss to enhance telecommunication services. While the final approval lies with the Federal Government through Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED) Canada, the Township has issued a statement of concurrence. This statement confirms that the Township acknowledges the project, believes the regulatory conditions have been met, and supports the installation.
The tower, to be located at the southeast corner of Lake Range Drive and Concession 8, is designed to support multiple co-location services with minimal visual impact. The site will include secure fencing and a monitored equipment shelter. Public notices were issued, and no objections were received during the consultation period ending July 26th, 2024.
Community Risk Assessment Adoption
Council received and adopted the Community Risk Assessment (CRA) prepared by Fire Chief Jeff Bradley. This assessment will guide future decisions on fire protection services within the Township. The CRA, which identifies and prioritizes community risks, will be submitted to the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) for approval.
In line with Ontario Regulation 378/18, the CRA includes detailed profiles such as geographic, infrastructure, demographic, and hazard data, all crucial for effective fire protection planning. This assessment will be reviewed and updated annually, ensuring the Fire Department remains proactive and responsive to emerging risks.
Ripley-Huron Community Centre Ice Allocation Policy Adopted
The Ice Allocation Policy was designed to maximize and fairly distribute ice time. The policy aims to ensure maximum use of ice time, provide fair and consistent access, and improve communication between user groups and the Township. Council has approved the policy.
