Council Highlights August 9th, 2023
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m.

Sarah Foster – Pride Flags being flown in Huron-Kinloss
Ms. Foster addressed Council with respect to a motion under consideration to repeal the Community Flag Policy.
Repeal Flag Policy
At the June 19th 2023 meeting of Council, a motion was brought forward to repeal By-Law 2018-62 being the Community Flag Raising Policy. The motion was deferred to the August 9th meeting.
Staff presented a report to Council, Repeal Community Flag Policy Motion, reviewing the current Community Flag Policy, requests for flag raising, and correspondence from residents on the matter. The report indicated staff support of the current policy and highlighted the next steps for Council regarding the deferred motion.
The motion was defeated, and the existing Community Flag Raising Policy remains in effect.
Building Permit Fees
Council received a report recommending changes to the building permit fees. The report proposes a fee for the following class of permits:
- Unfinished Basement – including crawl spaces
- Occupancy Permit
- Temporary Structure Permit
- Additional/Miscellaneous Inspections

Lurgan Beach Association Toy Library at Langdon Park
A Toy Library will be installed at Langdon Park as a pilot project. The Toy library is a storage box used to store toys in a tidy location for park users. Council approved a Staff recommendation to enter an agreement with the Lurgan Beach Association to maintain and manage the Toy Library. Other agreements may be considered following the completion of the pilot project.
Lucknow Summerfest Committee
The Lucknow Summerfest Committee has advised Staff that a decision was made by the Committee to disband after more than 25 years. The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council thanked the Committee for their years of service and contributions to the community.
Upcoming Meetings
The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Council Planning meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on August 14th, 2023. Meetings will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
