Council Highlights December 18th, 2023

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting was held virtually due to inclement weather at 7:00 p.m.

Highlights from the meeting include:

Food Cycler Pilot Project

The Municipal Program Coordinator at Food Cycle Science Corporation presented the pilot project results to Council.

The FoodCyler pilot project ran from May to August 2023. The results of the pilot program engaged 125 participants who tracked their usage and provided feedback through a survey. Results indicate an impressive equivalent of 18.8 metric tonnes of food waste diverted annually, with each household generating an estimated 21.3 fewer garbage bags for the landfill. Notably, 90% of participants expressed satisfaction, recommending the FoodCycler and committing to continued use. Municipal Modernization Program Final Report

Council received a report on the Final Intake of the Municipal Modernization Program (MMP). The MMP provides support to municipalities to explore opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce long term expenditure growth. Huron-Kinloss secured $91,584.00 for information technology solutions with the goal of saving staff time and improving internal and external reporting.

Staff recommend implementing Time Well Scheduled for electronic timesheets, Noratek Solutions for road maintenance, and an added by-law enforcement module to Cloudpermit, incurring a total cost of $14,430.00. Envisio, supporting project and performance monitoring, incurred implementation costs of $55,675.00. The total project cost submitted is $123,525.00, with anticipated funding of $91,584.00 pending final report approval. Remaining funds come from the Municipal Modernization Reserve, which still holds approximately $360,000 for future modernization projects.
