Council Highlights December 19th, 2022

Council Meeting 

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 in the evening.

The agenda contained several items including:

The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF)

The Township of Huron-Kinloss will receive $710,948 from the OCIF for 2023 infrastructure projects. This funding can be used for capital expenditures to replace, renew, or rehabilitate core infrastructure assets. Recommended uses for the funding will be included in the 2023 budget.

Economic Development Team a Finalist for Rural Excellence Award

The Huron-Kinloss Economic Development team has been chosen as a finalist for the Rural Excellence Award by the Economic Developer’s Council of Ontario (EDCO). The Rural Excellence Award aims to recognize a rural community (with a population under 10,000) that is doing extraordinary work in economic development with outstanding results. Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Michelle Goetz, and Business and Economic Officer, Amy Irwin, will attend the award ceremony on February 9th, 2023.

Green and Inclusive Community Building Program

The Government of Canada Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program (GICB) is making investments to improve the availability and condition of community buildings in areas with populations experiencing higher needs – while also making the buildings more energy efficient, lower carbon, resilient, and high performing. 

Staff is recommending to put forth an application with Pretium Consultants from Waterloo and will bring further details regarding the GICB program application back to the Council in the New Year for review. 

Community Emergency Management Coordinator Appointed

Council appointed Mel Moulton as the Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the Township of Huron-Kinloss. The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) requires that a Municipality appoint a Community Emergency Management Coordinator as a part of their legislated Emergency Management Program.

Upcoming Meetings

The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole and Council Planning meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on January 16th, 2023, and a Council meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. for the same day. These daytime meetings will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
