Council Highlights December 4th, 2023

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m.

Highlights from the meeting include:

Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation

The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation presented to Council on the case for support for the MRI addition to the Kincardine Hospital Redevelopment.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre Kincardine site, serving a catchment population of 114,500 residents and an additional 36,500+ seasonal population, is in need of urgent support for a new MRI machine. The current lack of MRI services in the area creates a significant urban-rural healthcare divide, particularly impacting marginalized populations.

Consolidated Fees

Council received a report to amend the Consolidated Fees By-Law to include the 2024 recommended fees. A comprehensive review of fees was conducted, and Staff are recommending several changes to the consolidated fees. Implementing the recommended changes will help to ensure the fees are consistent with neighbouring communities, reflect an appropriate cost recovery and/or meet objectives of revenue generation. The By-Law will come forward for approval at Council on December 18th.

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2024-2028

The Township of Huron-Kinloss, as a public sector organization, is required to update its accessibility plan once every 5 years in consultation with people with disabilities and accessibility advisory committees or working groups. A Multi-Year Accessibility plan outlines the steps the organization will take to prevent and remove barriers to accessibility, while meeting the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). The Huron-Kinloss Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2024-2028 outlines the ways in which the Township ensures people with disabilities can participate in the our programs, services, facilities, public spaces, information, communication, and employment.

Upcoming Meetings

The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Council Planning meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11^th, 2023. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
