Council Highlights March 4th, 2024

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m.

Highlights from the meeting include:

BM Ross and Associates Delegations

Lisa Courtney of B.M. Ross and Associates Limited provided Council with a presentation on Development Charges and the Septic Inspection Program. The Development Charges presentation summarizes what development charges are, what projects are eligible and which are exempted, and the process for implementing a development charges by-law.

The Septic Inspection Program presentation highlighted the program value for property owners and the environment and outlines the large-scale benefits of the program. A report on the Septic Inspection Program was presented to Council summarizing these benefits.

Van Diepenbeek Municipal Drain Tender

Staff recommended that Council award the tender to the lowest bidder, submitted JC Millwrights, in the amount of $178,773.74. This tender price is lower than the engineer’s estimate of $242,000 as contained within the Van Diepenbeek Drain report (By-Law 2023-109). Construction of the drain will begin in the spring and be completed by September 30, 2024.

Lucknow Community Centre Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant

The Township will apply for the Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant on behalf of the Lucknow Community Centre Board for the repair of the roof at the Lucknow Community Centre, as discussed in the Manager of Strategic Initiatives report to Council.

Early Investment in Education and Skills Program Guidelines Approved

The Early Investment in Education and Skills Program (EIES) provides funding for education and skills training for Huron-Kinloss residents, and funding for youth learning initiatives focusing on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program funding for 2024 is $30,000 and is directly provided by the NWMO. Council approved the program guidelines for the 2024 program.

Budget Adoption

The 2024 Budget Revisions report was presented to Council. The 2024 Budget Book can be viewed online.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ADOPT BUDGET
The Council of the Township of Huron-Kinloss intends to
adopt the estimates for 2024 at the regularly scheduled meeting,
Monday, March 18, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

Upcoming Meetings

The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on March 11th, 2024. This meeting will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
