Council Highlights November 18th 2024
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m. Highlights from the meeting include:
Manager of Environmental Services Hired
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council is pleased to announce the hiring of Cory Dulong as the new Manager of Environmental Services. Following a thorough hiring process with 14 applicants and six interviews, Cory was selected for his extensive 13 years of experience in water and wastewater operations, Class III Water Treatment and Distribution and Class II Wastewater treatment licenses as well as experience with operating a solid waste transfer site. He will begin his role with the Township on December 2nd, 2024.
Marriage Commissioner Appointed
Council approved a report announcing the appointment of Janice Wilhelm as the new Marriage Commissioner for the Township of Huron-Kinloss. Janice will perform civil marriage ceremonies on behalf of the Township, continuing the long-standing tradition of involving community members in this service. This appointment follows a review of processes to ensure efficient and effective delivery of civil marriage solemnization services.
Development Charges By-Law Passed
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council has passed Development Charges By-law No. 2024-103, effective November 18, 2024. This by-law establishes charges for new residential and non-residential developments to fund services such as Parks and Recreation, Roads, Water, Sanitary Sewage, and Fire Protection. Full details, including service areas and fee structures, are available on the Township's website or at the municipal office. Appeals can be filed with the Clerk by December 28, 2024, for consideration by the Ontario Land Tribunal.

2025 Rates and Fees
Council has approved the 2025 Rates and Fees By-law and 2025 Water and Wastewater Fees By-law. Water rates will increase by 1%, and wastewater fees will rise by 5.6% to support long-term infrastructure needs. Other changes include slight fee adjustments for planning, emergency services, recreation, and landfill services, as well as a simplified dog tag fee structure. These updates ensure service costs are covered while keeping rates fair and reducing the burden on taxpayers. View the fee schedules on the November 18th meeting agenda on our website.
Upcoming Meetings
The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 2nd, 2024. The meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
