Council Highlights October 2nd, 2023
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m.
Highlights from the meeting include:
2024 Policing Estimates
Treasury provided a report to Council on the 2024 Policing Estimates. The 2024 Annual Billing Statement Package provided includes the detailed estimates for 2024 Calls for Service based on the previous 4 year average, a breakdown of calls for service, and the 2022 reconciliation.
Ripley Medical Centre
Council has approved the development of Concept 3 for the Ripley Medical Centre and authorized Staff to move forward with the tender packages with Allan Avis Architects. Concept 3 focuses on expanding the medical center upstairs and providing space for daycare, ensuring ample room for the Family Health Team's programs and potential expansions pending funding approval.
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority Agreement
The Committee of the Whole supported an agreement with the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) for Category Three Services. Category Three Services include those that further the conservation, restoration, development, and management of natural resources.
In 2024, SVCA's Water Quality Program will continue, but it requires Category 3 Cost Apportioning Agreements with participating municipalities. SVCA's board passed a motion requiring all watershed municipalities to participate for these non-mandatory services to continue.
To facilitate this, the existing municipal levy will decrease, and funds will be reallocated through cost apportioning agreements, without changing the total amount of funding, but modifying the collection method.
Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) Marketing Canada Award
The Township of Huron-Kinloss was chosen as recipient of an Economic Developers Association of Canada Marketing Canada Award for our Investor’s bus tour that took place in May 2023! The award was given out at a conference in Summerside PEI on October 1st, 2023 and was presented virtually. The award is given to communities excelling in marketing and raising the bar on best practices to market their communities.
