Committee of the Whole Highlights

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7 in the evening.

The agenda included several items including:

Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update

A staff report was presented by the Director of Community Services which included the ‘What We Heard’ Report and Blueprint for the Future Key Directions Report.

The Township is hosting a Parks and Recreation Master Plan Workshop on Wednesday, October 12th from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre, 17 Queen Street Ripley.

The Workshop is an opportunity to:

• Hear a presentation on key research findings
• Provide your thoughts on the draft vision and principles for the Master Plan
• Share your ideas on the preliminary actions and strategies
• Identify your priorities for the future of parks and recreation in Huron-Kinloss

Waste Management

The Director of Public works presented a report on some of the Township's Waste Management initiatives for October 2022. The construction of the fence at the Huron Landfill is now complete. The Kinloss Landfill will be closing for the season on October 29^th, 2022. Fall leaf collection dates were announced and are as follows:

Ripley & Lucknow: November 7^th, 2022
Lakeshore: November 8^th, 2022

Strategic Initiatives Updates

The Manager of Strategic Initiatives presented a report which included the announcement of a major milestone: The Economic Development Team officially surpassed $1 million in grant and fundraising dollars received for 2022. This has enabled the department to provide many valuable projects, including:

Women in Carpentry, which is hosting an Employer Information Night at The Hub in Ripley on October 12^th from 6-8pm. This is a great opportunity for employers to learn more about the program especially if they are looking for help!

Sprout- Youth Entrepreneurship program, which will allow youth 14+ to learn the basics of owning and operating their own retail business under the guidance of the Business Development Coordinator. Applications are now open.

Next Meeting

The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17th, 2022. This will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
