Council Highlights September 16th 2024
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m. Highlights from the meeting include:
County of Bruce Draft Official Plan Presentation
Representatives from Bruce County presented to Council on the Draft County of Bruce Official Plan, emphasizing that this is an important opportunity for residents to understand how changes might impact their properties and to provide feedback before the plan is finalized. The draft plan, along with related maps and schedules, is available on the Bruce County website and at local libraries. The presentation outlined key elements of the draft, including updates to incorporate the latest Provincial Planning Statements, new criteria for evaluating settlement boundary expansions, and the introduction of Schedule E, a natural environment map that has been in development for a decade.
This Plan will affect all properties in the Bruce County. The opportunity for the public to learn about what changes may come to their property and provide feedback before it is finalized include media and social media campaigns, along with open houses. The County is seeking feedback on boundary adjustments and other elements, with final recommendations expected later in October.

Method of Voting Adoption
Council passed a by-law to authorize the use of internet and telephone voting for the 2026 municipal election, as securing a vendor early will ensure competitive pricing and effective customer service. Huron-Kinloss has used electronic voting (internet and telephone) since 2010, and it has proven to be the most cost-effective option. The flexibility of internet and telephone voting allows residents, non-residents, and persons with accessibility needs to cast their ballots from anywhere, avoiding the limitations of paper-based polls and the reliance on Canada Post seen with vote-by-mail systems. All other municipalities in Bruce County have already approved proceeding with internet and telephone voting for the 2026 election.
