HURON-KINLOSS, ON: The Township of Huron-Kinloss is excited to announce a significant leap forward in our commitment to enhancing landfill efficiency and sustainable waste management practices. Thanks to the generous support from the Near-Term Investment fund provided by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), we have acquired a state-of-the-art Caterpillar 816K Landfill Compactor. This valuable addition to our equipment fleet will significantly improve compaction performance, ensuring we make the most of available air space at our Huron Landfill.
“Over the years, we have faced challenges related to compaction performance, increased repair costs, and frequent breakdowns due to the wear and tear of our existing equipment. The reliable operation of landfill compactors is crucial to maximize the available airspace within the landfill, making efficient waste management possible while minimizing environmental impact,” stated John Yungblut, Director of Public Works.
The used Caterpillar 816K, which was acquired with approximately 3,625 hours of use, represents a significant investment in the future of the landfill. The purchase was made possible in part through the generous contributions from the NWMO's Near Term Investment fund, highlighting their commitment to supporting sustainable waste management practices. “We are pleased to support Huron-Kinloss as they enhance services for residents, increase efficiency and accelerate sustainable waste management practices,” Michael Pahor, Site Director for NWMO South Bruce, commented.
The Caterpillar 816K Landfill Compactor is renowned for its exceptional durability, efficient compaction capabilities, and operator comfort. Equipped with advanced features and wear-resistant components, this machine is well-suited to the demanding conditions of landfill operations. The acquisition of this high-quality compactor will significantly reduce repair and maintenance costs while optimizing compaction performance.
The Township of Huron-Kinloss would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization for their support and partnership in this endeavor. Their contribution has allowed us to take a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient landfill operation, benefitting our community and the environment.
