Business Grants and Funding Opportunities

Own a commercial property or run a business within one of our Community Improvement Plan (CIP) areas? Then you might be eligible to use our Downtown Improvement Granting program to better your business!

The first step to all of these programs is to find out if your business or property is within a CIP area:

Make sure your business is eligible for funding by checking out each program's eligibility requirements below:

Huron-Kinloss businesses who provide workplace training for employees may be eligible to receive funding up to 50% of registration fee for up to $500 per employee. Businesses may be eligible to a maximum limit up to $2,000 per year. Courses must be relevant to the applicant's workplace. Pre-approval of the application is required. Proof that you have completed the program will be required. Limited funds are available.

Training opportunities may include, but not limited to:

  • Health and safety training

  • Computer courses

  • First Aid/CPR training

  • Working From Heights

  • Heavy Equipment Training

This funding is part of the Early Investment in Education and Skills Program, funded by Nuclear Waste Management Organization and administered by the Township of Huron-Kinloss.

Apply Now for support for Workplace Training

This grant helps you financially and makes you feel good because you're helping the environment while improving your property's energy efficiency and conservation.

What you need to know:

  • This is a matched-cash program up to $3,000 per grant

  • One application per property will be accepted

Eligible improvements include:

  • Construction of new “green” buildings that meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards

  • Retrofits to improve efficiency and conservation like lighting, doors, windows, insulation, heating, etc.

  • Alternative energy sources like rooftop solar panels

Make sure you review the complete program guidelines before applying.

You know that old saying about “first impressions”? It extends to your storefront! Our Façade Improvement Grant is one we collaborate with Spruce the Bruce on for part of the season, which means you have even more access to funds for your business.

Spruce the Bruce

  • Check first to see if the Spruce the Bruce program is running. It is typically open from spring through to fall.

  • If the program is open, apply directly to Spruce the Bruce and they will let us know about your application (this way you aren't doubling-up on work!)

What you need to know:

  • This is a matched-cash program up to $3,000 for projects under $10,000 and up to $4,000 for projects over $10,000

  • Spruce the Bruce does not fund free-standing signs, but we will consider them

  • Sign and façade designs should follow the Lucknow Community Toolkit or the Ripley Community Toolkit if your property is in either one of their CIP areas

  • If the Spruce the Bruce program is not running, you can apply directly to us for funding year-round

You have a great business, so make sure your image promotes that! Our Marketing Grant allows you to hire an approved graphic designer or brand consultant to help develop your image.

What you need to know:

  • This is a matched-cash program up to $2,500 per grant

  • Graphic Designers or Brand Consultants must be pre-approved by our Downtown Improvement Grant Committee

Eligible projects include:

  • Brand consultation and development including style guide development

  • Logo development

  • Branded stationary and promotional items

  • Paid advertising

  • Product development

  • Marketing training for things like social media, search engine optimization, etc.

  • Other graphic design services

3 collaborative grants with Spruce the Bruce, giving you the opportunity to install a new and updated flat sign on a commercial building; install a new perpendicular (blade / projecting) sign on the exterior of the downtown commercial building AND/OR install an awning on the exterior of the downtown commercial building.

Spruce the Bruce

  • Check first to see if the Spruce the Bruce program is running. It is typically open from spring through to fall.

  • If the program is open, apply directly to Spruce the Bruce and they will let us know about your application (this way you aren't doubling-up on work!)

What you need to know:

  • This is a matched-cash program: up to $1,000 for fascia signage grant, up to $750 for perpendicular signage grant and up to $1,000 for awning grant.

  • Spruce the Bruce does not fund free-standing signs, but we will consider them

  • Façade designs should follow the Lucknow Community Toolkit or the Ripley Community Toolkit if your property is in either one of their CIP areas

  • It is recommended that perpendicular signs follow the Lucknow Signage Guidelines or Ripley Signage Guidelines if your property is in the Lucknow or Ripley CIP Areas.
  • If the Spruce the Bruce program is not running, you can apply directly to us for funding year-round

  • Perpendicular Signs must be approved as stated in the Township's Sidewalk Policy.
